Donald E. Mattingly - The funeral of Donald Eugene Mattingly, 55, of 19 C Street, Northmeadow Village, Normal. who died Sunday (Jan. 20, 1985) after a long illness, will be at 2 P.M. Friday at Carmody Funeral Home,
Bloomington, the Rev. Carl Miller and the Rev. James H. Turner officiating. Burial will be in the Park Hill Cemetery, Bloomington. Visitation will be from 4 to 8 P.M. Thursday at the funeral home. Mr. Mattingly was born May 7, 1929, at Hammond, Ind., a son of Marshal and Portia Flatt Mattingly. He married Rose Raney in 1954 in Bloomington. He married Marjorie Schultz in 1967, in Bloomington. She died in 1980. Survivors include his mother, Bloomington; four sons, Dan, Winter Haven, Fla.; David, Clearwater, Fla.; Donnie, Tallahassee, Fla.; and Jeff, Cornell; four daughters, Donna Cremeens, Diane Adams and Michelle Philback, all of Bloomington; and Debbie Dean, Dunedin, Fla.; a stepdaughter, Mary Clem, Lubbock, Texas; five brothers, Paul, Stanford; Robert, Normal; and Walter, Howard and Arthur, all of Bloomington; a sister, Peggy Radcliff, Danvers; and six grandchildren. Mr. Mattingly, a former mason who helped with the construction of Interstates 74 and 55, was a member of Local 152 of the Bricklayers, Masons and Plasterers International Union of America. Mr. Mattingly was the subject of an Oct. 9, 1983, Sunday Pantagraph interview in which he described three brushes with death from emphysema, pleurisy and other respiratory ailments. He also said that he was a part time pool shark who was given the nickname "Skid Row" because he hustled tables and then bought wine for Skid Row alcoholics. He further characterized himself as a free spirit who ran off to California to pan for gold and as a rock 'n roll king who liked to dance. Memorial may be made to the Mid-Eastern Lung Association or to the Salvation Army.
