BLOOMINGTON ILLINOIS PANTAGRAPH OBITUARY – 08/05/1996
The funeral Of Walter A. Mattingly, 56, of R.R. 3, Bloomington, will be at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at the First Christian Church, Bloomington, the Rev. Gail E. Bell officiating. Burial will be in Park Hill Cemetery, Bloomington. Visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m. Tuesday at Metzler-Froelich Memorial Home. He died at 1 p.m. Saturday [August 3, 1996] at BroMenn Regional Medical Center, Bloomington. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Habitat for Humanity, 313 N. East St., Bloomington. Surviving are his wife, Sandra K. Mattingly; two daughters, Robbin Dickerson and Natasha Theobald, both of Bloomington; one sister, Margaret Radcliff, Danvers; and four brothers, Robert Mattingly and Joseph Mattingly, both of Normal; Paul Mattingly, Stanford; and Arthur Mattingly, Bloomington. Also surviving are two granddaughters, Aimee Lynn and Charlee Sue, and two sons-in-law, Jeff Dickerson and Jeremy Theobald. He was preceded in death by his parents; a son, Tim Mattingly; and one brother, Donald Mattingly. He was born January 31, 1940, at Hammond, IN, the son of Marshall & Portia Flatt Mattingly. He married Sandra K. Moretz September 23, 1961, at Bloomington. Mr. Mattingly was a member of First Christian Church, Bloomington, where he had served as a deacon and on the official board. He was a member of Bloomington Moose Lodge #745 and Glaziers Local #1164. He was a U.S. Navy veteran who served as a fireman aboard the USS Chilton. He had worked as a glazier for 30 years and most recently co-owned McLean County Glass and Mirror Co. with Lew and Jerry Little. Mr. Mattingly participated in the Denny's Doughnut coffee club on South Main Street and enjoyed the fellowship and many friendships formed there.
