"THOMAS CLAYTON BRONAUGH was the son and fourth of eleven children of TALIAFERRO BRONAUGH and ELIZABETH JANE "JENNIE" [GILMOUR]BRONAUGH." He was born on his father's tobacco plantation near the "Hanging fork of the Dix River" in Lincoln County, Kentucky on 11 January 1805. "He grew up there" and in Christian County, Kentucky [after his family and the GILMOUR family moved there in about 1815.] "He was married to MARY C. ROLLINS on 21 January 1828 in Christian County, Kentucky and in 1830 they removed to Schuyler County, Illinois to get away from the institution of slavery and settled there as pioneers in that locality. In 1859, he again became a pioneer, this time in the Territory of Kansas. He bought a pre-emption in Nemaha County and for many years was successfully engaged there in farming. He died on his farm near Baileyville. Politically he was a Democrat. He served eighteen years as a justice of the peace, and as township trustee eighteen years in Illinois. He was a very active supporter of the Baptist Church. Among other attainments he had a thorough knowledge of the law and practiced that profession in connection with farming. Thomas Clayton Bronaugh and his wife Mary were the parents of eight children."
