Alys R. Dickerson, 86, of Indianapolis, formerly of Stockwell, died at 4:45 p.m. Tuesday, Jan. 26, 2010, at Hooverwood Nursing Home, Indianapolis. Born May 13, 1923, near Stockwell, she was the daughter of the late Thad and Ida Blanche McDole Cartmill. She graduated from Stockwell High School and lived in Stockwell most of her life. On Dec. 24, 1942, she married Raymond "Bus" Dickerson in Stockwell, and he preceded her in death on Jan. 13, 1996. She and her husband owned Dickerson Funeral Home in Stockwell until retiring in 1980. She also worked at Williams Florist in Lafayette for several years. Mrs. Dickerson was a member of Stockwell United Methodist Church, where she sang in the church choir. She was also a member of United Methodist Women and Order of the Eastern Star in Clarks Hill.

Surviving are her children, Lana Lehman (husband: Glen) of Indianapolis, Randy C. Dickerson of Kansas City, Mo., and Diana Steel (husband: Jeff) of Cincinnati. Also surviving are her grandchildren, Michael and Kerry Dickerson, Tara Dickerson Grosdidier, Kristin Lehman MacDonald, Andrea Lehman Wooton, Adam Steel and Sarah Steel Anderson; and great-grandchildren, Ty Dickerson, Tara Marie Dickerson, Cambell Grosdidier, Harper Grosdidier, Daniel Steel, Andrew Steel, Jacob Steel and Alex Anderson. She was preceded in death by 2 sisters, Eleanor Yundt Andress and Rhea Anderson; and 4 brothers, Thad, John, Max and Lowell Cartmill.

Friends may call from 12 p.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 30, 2010, at Soller-Baker Lafayette Chapel, 400 Twyckenham Blvd., Lafayette. Service will be held at 2 p.m. there, the Rev.
