SHELBYVILLE — Nelda Fern Shaffer, 83, of Shelbyville, died at 9:10 p.m. Sunday,
July 24, 2005 in Shelbyville Manor.
Funeral services will be held at 10:00 a.m. Wednesday in Howe and Yockey Funeral
Home, Shelbyville. Visitation one hour before services. Burial will be in Tower
Hill Cemetery, Tower Hill, Illinois. Memorials may be given to the First United
Methodist Church of Shelbyville or American Heart Association.
Nelda was born on September 10, 1921 in Tower Hill, the daughter of Herman and
Ollie Ann Deere Page. She was a member of the First United Methodist Church of
Shelbyville. She was one of the first residents of Hawthorne Inn in Shelbyville.
She married James W. Gray November 21, 1951. He died on September 20, 1974. She married Ralph E.
Shaffer on September 2, 1989. He died on June 17, 1994.
Surviving are her brother, Nile Page and wife Fern of Clarksburg; sister, Hilda
Hug and husband Nic of Mattoon; 12 nieces and nephews, Lee and Gene Curtis,
Dennis and Tom Page, Tammy Willenborg, Nicki Sardinia and Brad Hug, George
Young, Kenneth, Paul and Donald Page and Cheryl Page; step-grandson William Gray, several great nieces and
nephews; and several great great nieces and nephews, including Tyler and Tayler
Schanks.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husbands; three brothers, Garnet,
Virgil and Mervin Page; three sisters, Juanita Young, Helen Curtis and Marie
Anderson; stepson Charles Gray, two nephews, Ronald Page and Alan Page; and niece, Judith Batton.
