The many friends and relatives of Daniel F. Carter will regret to learn of his death on January 13, 1925 at the National Military home at Leavenworth, Kansas, where he has been in the hospital ward under the doctor’s care for a number of years. He was raised in Ohio, where at the age of sixteen he enlisted in Company “K”, 188th regiment, Ohio Volunteer Infantry, and served until the close of the Civil war. When about nineteen years of age, he came with his parents to Blair, and on August 13th, 1870, was married to Viola M. Parish in this city where they lived for a number of years, later leaving for a few years residence in Kansas and Missouri, but returning here to live in 1894. In January, 1898 Mr. Carter was stricken with paralysis, since which time he has been an invalid. He was a member of the G. A. R. and always took an active interest in their programs before his affliction. He was 77 years, 4 months, and 17 days old at the time of his death. He is survived by his widow, who resides at Long Beach, California with his daughter and four children, Raymond C. Carter of Bostwick, Nebr., who was present at his burial; Roe F. Carter of Fresno, Calif., Mrs. Lela Watt and Mrs. Fern Carey, both of Long Beach. Although an invalid, his death was unexpected, and came as a shock to Mrs. Carter who was in a hospital at the time recovering from a painful operation. In life he had often expressed a desire that his final resting place be among his comrades; his wishes were complied with, and he was buried with military honors from the Home. The 90th Psalm being read by the chaplain.
