Obituary-Blair, Nebraska
JACOB CARTER
After an illness of about two Weeks Jacob Carter died at his home on west Washington Street at two a.m., last Tuesday morning of pneumonia. He attained the advanced age of 74 years and had long waited for the end to come. He was fully prepared for the summons and laid down the burdens of life without a struggle. The funeral services were held in the Baptist church at two o'clock this afternoon, Rev. C. E. Tingley was assisted by Elder Whitesides, of St. Louis, a former pastor of this place. Mr. Carter was born in Scioto Co., Ohio, in 1826, the eldest of seven children, but two of whom survive him. He was married to Miss Francis Harris in 1845, and they came to this state in 1856 locating for a short time in DeSoto and then on the place where his death occurred. To them were born five children, Charles, John, Mrs., Z.T. Brunton, Mrs. William Lippincott, and Miss Dora. Mr. Carter was at one time a commissioner for the county but his influence first of all was with his church, for which he has always been a faithful and earnest worker. It is there he will be missed most outside the home, where the aged wife bends low under her weight of sorrow.
