John Downey, 67, had lived in the Jean community since 1899. He was a former Young County Commissioner from Precinct Four. He died of a heart attack at his home.

He served as Precinct Four Commissioner for 12 years, from January 1947-December 1958.

Services were held at the Jean Baptist Church with Jack Owens, minister of the Jean Church of Christ officiating assisted by Rev. C.W. Hedrick, pastor of Jean Baptist Church.

Survived by his wife; one son - Glenn Downey; five brothers - Wake, Ray, Hughie, Alvin and Marvin Downey; one sister - Mrs. Sam Simpson of Graham.
