David W. Moore, Jr. (see in Bio below)
David W. Moore, Sr., a Mason, and a Methodist, was most likely born in Tennessee. Possibly Madison Co. as that is noted on the TN Death Certificate of one of his daughters. Also, there is some info that shows him possibly born in South Carolina but the research is still being done. The earliest absolute Census I have is the 1850 Federal. It shows him living with his wife Margaret, his brother John B., and his mother - also Margaret. I do not have his father's given name or any information about David prior to his marriage. He married Margaret Clements 19 Sep, 1849, in Carroll Co., TN. The marriage was announced in the Charleston Observer in Charleston, SC. By the 1860 Census, they had moved to Gibson Co., where they raised several children. Some of those children I currently have verified were: Mary Ada Moore McAliley; Dr. John Calvin Moore; Margaret Elizabeth Moore Powell; Rev. Albert Clinton Moore; David W. Moore, Jr.; Ida S. Moore Blankinship; and my Great-grandmother, Alice Siddie Moore Bryant. David's daughter, Margaret Elizabeth is the mother of her firstborn baby "Willie" that is buried by David and Margaret. Willie's parents would later move to OK and make their lives there until death. There are other children listed in various documents and they are: Luther, Lambert, M.F., Elma, (Eliga - a male whom I believe is Albert Clinton above based on dates and no other mention of an Elma), and Emerson who could possibly be the same person as Luther i.e. possibly "Luther Emerson" I believe but I have yet to prove. However, I have only verified through records, the children I have listed in this Bio and connected below.
David and Margaret are attributed with having helped establish the Moore's Chapel community in Gibson Co., Tennessee. The land for the Moore's Chapel Methodist Church and the cemetery, was donated by David and Margaret. I have a photo with multiple men working on the roof and one of them is David but you can only see that people are working and cannot identify any of them. This church is located on Hwy. 104, halfway between Milan and Trenton, in Gibson Co., Tennessee. The original church is now the Fellowship Hall. David and Margaret, a grandson, along with 3 other people, are now buried in the tiny cemetery. David is my Gx2 grandfather.
Never forgotten....
NOTE: Many people have used this biography on their family trees and you are welcome to any of the research I have. However, when I first began to see it on people's trees, it was very early into the research process. Therefore, I had not yet found or verified all the information when I began to add it here. As my research on David's family developed, I updated this memorial. I'd like to suggest you use the URL (browser link) on your tree instead of the "Story" that many are using. That way it will be the most current information I have found. The children's names are a mess in the census records and I have only verified some of them which are connected below.
