We learn by an exchange that Mrs. Charles W. Hardendorf died last Sunday morning in a hospital in Cleveland, Ohio, where She had been for about three weeks suffering from heart trouble and dropsy. The funeral was held Tuesday and the remains were cremated, according to Her wishes. The ashes will be brought to Her old home at Louisville Landing for interment later.
Mrs. Hardendorf was formerly Miss Eva Matthews, daughter of the late James Matthews of Louisville Landing, where She was born on Nov. 27, 1865. She attended the district school and Potsdam Normal and was proficient in music. At twenty-one, She married Rev. Charles W. Hardendorf, then pastor of the M.E. Church at North Lawrence, the marriage being celebrated at Massena.
Later, Rev. Hardendorf joined the Congregational ministry serving at Columbia, Ohio, Albany, New York and for six years here in Madrid. Later, He went to Geneva, Ohio and then Cleveland, Ohio, where They had been for about two years. She spent a large part of nearly every summer with Her father at Louisville Landing and last season She remained with Him during His last sickness.
Besides Her husband She is survived by one son, Foss Hardendorf of N.Y. City and one brother, George P. Matthews of Massena; also two step-sons and a step-daughter. Many friends in Madrid and Louisville will sympathize deeply with the afflicted family.
