Harry E. Gillingham, 98, of Carrollton died on Monday morning at 1:48 A.M. at Jersey Community Hospital in Jerseyville. Born in Haypress, IL on Jan. 25, 1911, he was the son of the late John C. Gillingham and Lora Wood Gillingham. He married the former Mildred Chapman on August 27, 1934 in Jacksonville, IL. and she survives.

Also surviving are 2 sons: Larry (wife Velma) Gillingham of Carrollton, Bob (wife Sue) Gillingham of Shipman, 3 grandchildren: Beth (husband Jamie) Gorman, Amy (husband Ross) McIntyre, Bobby (loving companion Angel McCario) Gillingham, 6 great grandchildren: Jim, Kate, Cal and Margaret Gorman; and Vivian and Lydia McIntyre. Four sisters also survive: Louise Scheffel of Carrollton, JoAnn Roth of Carrollton, Neoma (husband Fred) Schmidt of Carrollton, Darlene (husband Richard) Carmean of Roodhouse, and a brother Neal (wife Pat) Gillingham of Carrollton. He was preceded in death by 3 sisters: Lillian Helderman, Betty Gerson, and Mary "Pete" Hetelle Chapman, and two brothers: John "June" Gillingham and Willis Gillingham.

Harry was a 1929 graduate of Carrollton High School. After high school he went to work at Frech's Service Station in Carrollton. Later in 1941 he began his longtime association with Phillips Oil Company that lasted until his retirement in 2004. He was a member of the Carrollton First Baptist Church and a charter member of the "Jericho Roadrunners" singing group.

Services were entrusted to Airsman-Hires Funeral Home of Carrollton, Illinois.
