He was named by Fortune magazine as the 11th richest person in the world with a net worth of $18 billion. An Army veteran during the Vietnam war, he was in the Green Berets and served as a Medic. He was awarded the Silver Star for saving the lives of several members of his unit when it was under heavy fire. He died when the ultra light aircraft that he was piloting crashed in Grand Teton National Park in Wyoming.
