Bert Gravatt Dies in Florida

Bert C, Gravatt, well known labor leader and first president of Alcoa Lacol, CIO, died yesterday in Tampa, Fla., acording to word received shortly before noon today. Death came suddenly following a heart attack. The body will be returned to New Kensington.

Funeral services for W. Bert Gravatt, 65, formerly of New Kensington, who died Monday in Tampa, Fla., will be held at 2 p.m. Friday in the Ross G. Walker Funeral Home, 868 Fourth Avenue, New Kensington. Mr. Gravatt had lived in Tampa since his retirement in 1950 as an employe of the Aluminum Company of America. He was the first president of the CIO local in New Kensington. He was born April 13, 1891, in Tarentum. He was a member of the Bethesda Lutheran Church in New Kensington, the 25-year club of Alcoa and the Odd Fellows of New Kensington. He is survived by his wife, Mrs. Florence B. Bricker Gravatt; three daughters, Mrs. Ernest Laskar and Mrs. Harry Straub, of New Kensington, and Mrs. Fred Schupp, of Washington; and two sisters, Mrs. Gertrude Grossman, of Natrona Heights, and Mrs. Minnie Allen, of Slippery Rock. Friends will be received at the funeral home after noon tomorrow. Interment will be in Greenwood Memorial Park.
