Ruth Gravatt Kearney, 84, of Titusville, Fla., formerly of New Kensington, died Wednesday (Aug. 7, 2002) in her home.
Born Jan. 9, 1918, in New Kensington, she lived in Titusville for 18 years.
She was a graduate of New Kensington High School and attended the University of Pittsburgh and the University of Miami, Fla.
Mrs. Kearney worked for the U.S. Civil Service at the White House during the Eisenhower administration and as an adjudicator for the Social Security Administration before retiring.
She was a member of First United Methodist Church, Titusville.
She enjoyed swimming, dancing, singing and horses.
Survivors include three stepsons, William (Elaine) Schupp of Charleston, S.C., Robert W. Schupp of Jacksonville, Fla., and Keith (Deborah) Kearney of London; a stepdaughter, Leslie Kearney of Connecticut; three stepgrand-children; and six great-grand-children.
Also surviving are a grand-daughter, Mrs. Hillarie (John) Green; a nephew, Thomas Straub; and an aunt, Helen Cost.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Lester A. Kearney; her second husband, Frederick A. Schupp; a son, Ronald Hicks; a grandson, Owen Hicks; her parents, Bertram and Florence Bricker Gravatt; and two sisters, Dorothy Lasher and Leanore Straub.
Friends will be received from 9 to 11 a.m. Saturday in JOHN F. KRUPA FUNERAL HOME INC., 1000 Freeport Road, New Kensington. Services will be at 11:30 a.m. Saturday in First United Presbyterian Church, New Kensington, by the Rev. Kenneth Hooten. Burial will be in Greenwood Memorial Park mausoleum, Lower Burrell. may A memorial service will be conducted at 3 p.m. Sunday, Aug. 25, in First United Methodist Church, Titusville.
