Michael Woltmann was born in 1826 in Kocanowo, Posen, Germany. He was the son of Andreas and Anna Christina Kruger Woltmann. On November 23, 1852 he married Henriette Heth (also spelled Hedt) in Pudewitz. She was the daughter of Ludwig and Ana Rosina Gens Heth.
At the ages of 59 and 55, Michael and Henriette joined the wave of Germans who immigrated to Texas during the 19th century. They arrived on the SS Elbe at the port of New York in 1886. The ship registry listed Michael's occupation as farmer.
Michael and Henriette had eight children, seven of whom also came to Texas between 1884 and 1891: Julius, Caroline, Auguste, Gustav, Karl, August, and Emma. Michael and Henriette resided in Welcome (Austin County) and later in Latium (Washington County). Michael died in Latium in 1907.
