St Johnsville – Silas N. Dingman, 88, who for many years resided on Hough Street, died Saturday evening in the Van Allen Nursing home in Little Falls. He had been in the nursing home for four years.
Mr. Dingman was born in Marshville on Nov 2, 1867, a son of William Henry Dingman and Eliza Van Etta Dingman. He traced his ancestry to Revolutionary war days. He was employed at one time by the New York Central Railroad and later was self-employed as a carpenter and contractor in this vicinity. He was a member of Grace Congregational Christian Church. Surviving are two daughters, Mrs. Ira Matteson of this village and Mrs. Kenneth Tripp, in Massachusetts: three sons, Leland Dingman of Shrub Oak, NY, William Dingman of Herkimer, and Silas Dingman of Ephratah; one adopted son Richard Dingman, St. Johnsville, 15 Grandchildren and Six great-Grandchildren, also several nieces and nephews.
The funeral will be held today at 3:30 p.m. at the Smith Funeral Home, here. Rev. Bertram A. Walton, pastor of Grace Church, will officiate, and burial will be made in Freys Bush Cemetery.
