MARGARET THOLEN BURGON

Margaret Tholen Burgon, 81, of Orem, Utah, died December 28, 1996, at her daughter's home in Orem.

She was born July 4, 1915, a daughter of Carl Walfred and Mamie Edna Malmstrom Tholen in Garfield, Utah. She married Marvin Heber Burgon August 4, 1941, in the Salt Lake LDS Temple. He died September 26, 1985.

Margaret graduated from BYU in 1937 receiving her teachers certificate. After graduating from BYU, she served a short-term mission in the eastern states. She taught school in Salt Lake and Utah Counties. She has held leadership positions in all the LDS Church auxilaries and served as an illustrator for the LDS Church Correlation Committee.

She made artistic contributions in church, civic, school and commercial areas. She has served in many civic clubs and organizations, most recently Paidea Sorosis, Orem Women's Club, and Provo/Orem Women's Division Chamber of Commerce.

Survivors include her children, M. Kent (Joan) Burgon of Sandy, Victoria Kaye (William) Lund of Orem, Shauna (Robert) Valentine of Lincoln, Nebraska, Jacqueline (Tim) Phillips of Orem, Lannette (Rand) Jolley of Highland, Jean (Scott) Rochelle of Orem, and Paul Tholen (LaDell) Burgon of Pleasant Grove. She is also survived by 34 grandchildren, 15 great-grandchildren; and her brothers and sisters, Edsel (Zetta) Tholen of Salt Lake City, Raymond Tholen of Midvale, Richard (Faye) Tholen of Bountiful, and Beverly (Ross) Strode of Fairborn, Ohio; and also one aunt, Esther Davis Griffith of Riverton.

Funeral services will be held Thursday, January 2, 1997, at 11 a.m. in the Sharon 2nd Ward Chapel, 641 South 400 East, Orem. Friends may call Wednesday from 6 to 8 p.m. at the Sundberg-Olpin Mortuary, 495 South State, Orem, and also Thursday one hour prior to the services at the ward chapel. Interment, Murray City Cemetery.
