Mr. Hayes was born Oct. 21, 1913, in Richwoods, the son of Patrick Hayes and wife Julia, nee Coleman.
He received his schooling at Bluff School in Richwoods.
Mr. Hayes served his country in the U.S. Army during World War II.
On July 17, 1954, he was united in marriage to Mary Lou Rolf at St. Gertrude Church, Krakow.
Mr. Hayes was a farmer and a farm caretaker for most of his life.
He was a member of St. Gertrude Church.
Mr. Hayes also was a member of Veterans of Foreign Wars and the Disabled American Veterans.
He was preceded in death by his parents; three sisters, Ellen Luehr, Nora Miller and Bertha Johnson; and one brother, Louie Hayes.
Mr. Hayes is survived by his wife, Mary Lou Hayes, Washington; one sister-in-law, Cecelia Frankenberg and husband Norman, Washington; two brothers-in-law, Marion Johnson and Henry Rolf, both of Washington; nieces; nephews; cousins; other relatives and many friends.
A funeral Mass was held Wednesday, April 13, at St. Gertrude Church in Krakow with the Rev. Father Richard Coerver officiating.
Burial was in the church cemetery.
