BERTHA M. HAYES JOHNSON
Bertha M. Johnson, nee Hayes, 81, Washington, formerly of Pacific, passed away Wednesday, April 2, 2003, at St. John's Mercy Hospital, Washington.
Mrs. Johnson was born May 30, 1921, in Richwoods, the daughter of Patrick Hayes and his wife Julia, nee Coleman. She received her education at the Bluff School in Richwoods.
On Feb. 14, 1942, she was united in marriage to Marion L. Johnson at St. Stephen's Church in Richwoods.
Mrs. Johnson was a long time resident of Purina Farms and a member of St. Bridget's Parish in Pacific. She was employed as a nurses aide at Friendship Village.
Mrs. Johnson was preceded in death by her parents, Patrick and Julia Hayes; and one sister, Ellen Luehr.
She is survived by her husband, Marion L. Johnson, Washington; one son, Charles Johnson and wife Linda, Villa Ridge; three daughters, Sandy Meyer and husband Don, Labadie, Mary Jo Magoffin and husband Mitch, Columbia, and Sherri Heitert and husband Tom, Pacific; one brother, Robert Hayes and wife Mary Lou, Washington; one sister, Nora Miller, Belgrade; 13 grandchildren, Andrew, Phillip, Julie, Becky, Katy, Betsy, Calvin, Jean, Luke, Cory, Abby, Joseph and Eric; eight great-grandchildren; nieces; nephews; other relatives and many friends.
A Mass of Christian Burial was held Saturday, April 5, at St. Bridget's Church, Pacific, with the Rev. Richard Coerver officiating. Interment was in the church cemetery. Memorials to St. Stephen's Church, Richwoods, are preferred.
The Johnson family was served by Nieburg-Vitt Funeral Home, Washington.
