Mrs. Luehr was born at Richwoods, Missouri, March 20, 1912, to the late Patrick and Julia (Coleman) Hayes. She received her education at the former Bluff School near Richwoods, having completed the ninth grade. She then came to the Sullivan area where she took employment at International Shoe Company and continued to work there until the company closed.
Helen then became employed at the former Kovac's Restaurant as a cook.
On August 5, 1930, she was married to Hugo Luehr at Richwoods. In later years, when ill health fell upon her, she moved to Washington to be near her daughter.
Mrs. Luehr was known as an ambitious and hardworking woman. When living in Sullivan, she was a member of St. Anthony Catholic Church.
In addition to her parents and her husband, Hugo,-- Mrs. Luehr was preceded in death by an infant son, Joseph, a daughter, Willetta Frankenberg, a great-granchild and a brother-in-law, Winford Miller.
She is survived by a son, Donald Luehr and wife, Katherine, Union; a son-in-law, Donald Frankenberg, Washington; one brother, Robert Hayes and wife, Mary Lou, Washington; two sisters, Nora Miller, Belgrade, Missouri and Bertha Johnson and husband, Marion, Washington; eleven grandchidren; 19 great-grandchildren; other relatives and many friends.
A Mass of Christian burial was celebrated at 10 a.m. Saturday, December 23, from St. Anthony Catholic Church in Sullivan with Reverend Father Theodore Brunnert officiating.
Interment was in St. Anthony Parish Cemetery. If desired, contributions may be made for Masses or to the Alzheimer's Association in memory of Mrs. Helen Luehr.
All arrangements were under the care of the Eaton Funeral Home, Sullivan."
