George was born 31 May 1861 in Clayton, Sussex, England to George Edward and Charity Waller Simmons being the eighth of eleven children. They are in order of birth, Elizabeth, Fannie, Joseph B., Jesse, Sarah Anne, Ellen, Charity, George, Mary Jane, and twins Harriet and Caroline.
The family lived at Hayward Heath Parrish, a small market town with a railroad station, 13 miles north of Brighton, and 38 miles south of London. The largest cattle sale in Sussex was held there. George Edward and Charity joined the Church or Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints on 19 Sep 1852.
George could play many musical instruments including organ, accordian, harp, among others as well as the coronet that a friend of his father taught him how to play while in England. The friend and George would play their instruments untill a crowd would gather and then his father would preach the gospel to them.
George's mother, Charity died 1 Aug 1874, leaving her eight living children. His father, George married Dora Turner 28 Dec 1874.
George left Liverpool, England Wednesday 28 June 1876 and sailed accross the ocean on the ship "Idaho", and landed in New York, New York 10 Jul 1876. They were divided into ten Wards with a president over each ward They had prayers in each ward at 7:00 a.m., and 9:00 p.m., and all were expected to be in bed at 10:00 p.m.
The ship was powered partly by sails and partly by steam. He came with his father and step mother (George Edward and Dora Turner Simmons) and their infant daughter, Agnes Louisa Rose, his brother Joseph and sisters, Elizabeth, Ellen, Charity, and Mary Jane.
They stayed in Salt Lake City, Utah for two weeks and then went to Charleston, Wasatch, Utah.
George was also a very good artist. He painted a picture of the ship, Idaho that he and his family came across the ocean on.
George helped his father on the farm and he was good at it and with handling horses.

George and Sarah grubbed the sagebrush and cleared the rocks from the land they purchased in Charleston. They moved two one room log homes and after joining them together they added a lean to on to it and lived comfortably until 1926 when their home burned down. Their son, Joseph William (known as bill) rebuilt the home with the help of their neighbor, Elisha Webster who was a carpenter, Elisha would instruct Bill each day after he came home from work what he should do the next day until the home was completed.
George was a farmer and milked cows.
George died 29 Nov 1947 and is buried in the Charleston, wasatch, Utah Cemetery.
