Funeral services for Soren Simonson, 79, of Maddock, were conducted on Saturday, March 1, 1958 at 2:00 p. m. from the Viking Lutheran Church with Pastor F. E. Olderr officiating. Interment was in the Viking Cemetery beside the grave of his wife who preceded him in death in February of 1950. Mr. Simonson died on 25 February 1958 at Jamestown where he had been a patient for a few months. Music for the service was furnished by Mrs. Alfred Sylling, accompanied by Mrs. Millard Kolsrud. Pallbearers were Harley Nelson, Norman Ulness, Edgar Simonson, Alden Nelson, Norton Simonson and Selmer Simonson. Soren Simonson was born at Hadeland, Norway on 21 Sep 1879. He came to the United States with his parents Hans and Gertrude Simonson at the age of six years. He was baptized in Norway and confirmed at the Viking church on 10 Nov 1895 by Rev. Oksendahl. On 24 Oct 1902, he was united in marriage to the former Clara Rosendahl. They had four children, Olga Mrs. Lewis Ambers, Hazel Mrs. Orville Vinnard, Clarence Simonson and Henry Simonson who died in November of 1953. Mr. Simonson homesteaded and farmed in the South Viking community until 1946 when he retired and moved to Hamberg, later going to the Moeller Memorial Home in Maddock. He resided here for four years. Surviving Mr. Simonson besides his three children, Olga, Hazel and Clarence, are four sisters, Mrs. Tilla Nelson of Sheyenne, Mrs. Nels Ulness of New Rockford and Mrs. Christ Proefrock of New Rockford, ND. Burial in block 3 plot 97.
