A deer hunting excursion for three farmers in the South Viking township of Benson County, ND ended in tragedy late Friday night, when one man was killed instantly and his brother and a neighbor were hurt in a car truck collision. The accident occurred between 9:00 and 9:30 p.m. 13 miles south of Maddock Hwy #30. Killed in the accidents was Mr. Henry Simonson, who was riding in the pickup driven by Mr. Art Nelson. They slammed into the rear end of the 1948 Chevy sedan driven by Clarence Simonson, the brother of the victim. The impact was so terrific that Mr. Nelson was thrown against the steering wheel, folding it over. His passenger was killed instantly. Henry Oscar Simonson was born on 13 Jan 1907 in Norway Lake Township of Wells County, ND the son of Mr. and Mrs. Soren Simonson. He was baptized by Rev. Oksendahl, confirmed by Rev. Orvall. He had served in the United States Army for four years. He was united in marriage on 13 Oct 1931 to Mary Flaskerud. They were the parents of six children: Pennie Mae Simonson, Rodney Simonson who is serving in the Army, Milo Simonson and Darrold Simonson both of Seattle, WA, Adrian Simonson of Fargo and Karen Simonson of Oberon, ND. He is also survived by his father, Soren, two sisters Mrs. Lewis Ambers and Mrs. Orville Vinnard and one brother, Clarence Simonson of Maddock. Henry spent his last years working in several different states on the railroad and different jobs. The last three months he has been doing carpenter work and helping his brother with the farm work, until he met his death in a car accident at the age of 45 years, 10 months and 8 days. Funeral services for Henry Simonson were held at the Viking Church with Rev. C. F. Turmo officiating. Mrs. Millard Kolsrud was organist and Mrs. Oscar Gilbertson was soloist. Pallbearers were Oscar Ambers, George Ambers, Melvin Gunderson, Selmer Simonson, Hayward Simonson and Edgar Simonson. Burial was in the church cemetery in Block 3 Plot 97. Utgaard Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.
