Marcus vs. Marquis: Name spelled both ways in various records, as it is for his nephew Marcus Edward Speer (53578715), son of John Grove Speer. I opt for Marcus because that's the way John Grove Speer spelled both names in his book, Reminiscences of the Speer Family (Lexington KY: Blue Grass Printing Co., 1900).
