GALENA, KANSAS: Bill L. Barnes, age 75, passed away at 6:07 pm, Monday, Sept 28, 2009 at Galena Nursing Center, Galena, KS.
Bill was born January 21, 1934 in Galena, KS to the late Henry F Barnes and Hazel B. Murray Barnes.
He was a lifetime resident of Galena.
He was a retired maintenance supervisor and bus driver for Galena Public Schools.
He was a veteran of the Korean War, serving in the U S Army from 1956 – 58.
His most favorite pastime was fishing.
He is survived by his wife, Carol S. (Kitch) Barnes, whom he married on Aug. 6, 1955 in Miami, OK; one sister-in-law, Gale Barnes; one brother-in-law, Horace Saunders; many nieces and nephews and one special nephew and best friend, John L. Barnes.
He was preceded in death by one sister, Mary L. Saunders, one brother Howard L. Barnes and two nieces.
Graveside services will be at 10:00 am, Thursday, Oct 1, 2009 at Hill Crest Cemetery, Galena, KS.
Pastor Jeff D. Martin will officiate.
Arrangements are under the direction of Derfelt Funeral Home, Galena, KS.
Memorial contributions may be made to Camp Joy Ministries in care of the funeral home.
