Mrs. Frances "Grandma" Reichert, a pioneer in the community died March 15, at the home of her daughter, Mrs. Michael Seifried, near Strang. Mrs. Reichert was 84.
Mrs. Reichert, formerly Frances Fettig, was born on April 7, 1850, at Steinauer, Baden, Germany. She was the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Salzar Fettig, who had her baptized in her infancy.
When she was seven years old, her parents left their fatherland, in 1857, coming to America. They first lived at Cleveland, Ohio, but one year later, 1858, they moved to White Oak, Christian County, Ill.
She was married to Gottlob Reichert in August, 1873. To this union was born five sons and five daughters.
In 1876, Mr. and Mrs. Reichert, with their children, left Illinois and came to Nebraska, where they took a homestead on section 32 in Belle Prairie township, Fillmore county. In the year 1904, they moved to Holt County, where they lived until 1917. Then Mr. and Mrs. Reichert quit farming and made their home with Mr. and Mrs. Michael Seifried.
Mr. Reichert died on April 17, 1918. "Grandma" Reichert remained with her oldest daughter and husband until her death. In October, 1931, she suffered a paralytic stroke from which she never fully recovered.
Surviving are all her children: George of Hereford, S.D., Christ of Bruning, William of Geneva, Jacob and Paul of Bruning, Mrs. Mary Seifried of Strang, Mrs. Louise Bruning, Mrs. Margaretha Bruning, Mrs. Katherine Eppenbaugh of Viewfield, S.D., and Mrs. Lydia Trapp of Shickley and twenty four grandchildren.
