Charlie Luper Passes
Prentiss was shocked and grieved early Sunday morning when it became known that Charlie Luper had died suddenly at his home at Prentiss. He felt slightly indisposed Friday night, and Saturday developed symptoms of pneumonia, but was not considered seriously ill. He ate breakfast Sunday morning, and while Miss Edna Earl Bush, who is boarding in the home was reading the football results to him at his request, he suffered a heart attack and died instantly. He had suffered from a heart ailment for the past three years, but had improved enough to be able to drive his car and make frequent visits to town.
Mr. Luper was 56 years of age, and was a veteran of World War I, having served in the Army. His genial disposition, his love of little children, and his kindly thoughful consideration of others, caused him to number his friends by the scores. He derived great pleasure from the kindergarten Mrs. Luper was conducting at their home each week day, and the children all loved him devotedly. He showed deep affection for his three step-grandchildren, who reciprocated that love to a marked degree.
Funeral services were held from the Prentiss Methodist Church at 3:30 Monday afternoon with his pator, Rev. G. Eliot Jones, Rev. J. M. Looney, pastor of the Prentiss Presbyterian Church, and Dr. W. L. Sewell, pastor of the Prentiss Baptist Church, officiating. Interment was made in the Prentiss Cemetery with the American Legion Post in charge.
Pall bearers were: Active -- Harlos Everitt, Josh Tyrone, Hiram Williams, Edwin Dale, Van Roberts, J. T. Rush, B. C. Clark, Ingram Foster. Honorary: C. J. Lambert, Dewey Polk, Vardaman Polk, P. W. Berry, Jr., John S. Williams, L. H. Tyrone, Milton Polk, Lloyd Livingston, Joseph Magee, Charlie Sills, V. B Garraway, Dr. N. O. Tyrone, Dr. H. G. Williams, Dr. W. S. Berry, B. C. Griffith, H. B. Davis, Ralph Baylis, Guy Sutton, D. H. Price, Clyde Luper, Ras Pace, C. R. Quinn, Burkett Berry, F. A. Parker, M. M. Davis, C. W. Price, John Burrow, Jr., J. J. Polk, W. T. Lipsey, Kirby Thompson, and entire Prentiss American Legion Post.
He is survived by his wife, Mrs. Melysse Gray Griffith Luper; one sister, Miss Bessie Luper, Prentiss; and four brothers, Dr. J. C. Luper of Okolona, O. C. Luper, Grover Luper and Clarence A. Luper, Prentiss.
