Former State Senator O. C. Luper Passes After Lengthy Illness

Although it was generally known he was seriously ill, the announcement of the death of Hon. Oliver Clifton Luper, which occurred at his home early Saturday morning, caused widespread sorrow in Prentiss. He had been in failing health for several years and had been confined to the home for several months. All during his long illness he was tenderly and patiently ministered to by his devoted wife who never neglected him for anything.

Mr. Luper was 61 years of age. He was born at Prentiss and spent his entire life here. He had been successfully engaged in the practice of law for over thirty years, and had served in both branches of the Mississippi legislature. He was a member of the Prentiss Methodist Church.

Thirty-one years ago Mr. Luper was married to Miss Lola Weldy, who survives him. Seldom does one see a couple more ideally suited to one another than were Mr. and Mrs. Luper. They loved home and found great happiness around their own hearth stone though not by any means did they live unto themselves.

Mr. Luper possessed a keen sense of humor, and was always bright and cheerful even after disease laid its hand upon him. He loved his home town and friends and he will be keenly missed in the community where he had been a familiar figure for so many years.

Funeral services were held from the home at 10:00 A.M. Sunday with his pastor, Rev. G. Eliot Jones in charge, assisted by Dr. W. L. Sewell, pastor of the Prentiss Baptist Church. Interment was made in the Prentiss Cemetery.

Active pall bearers were Shelby Coulter, Milford Coulter, Clyde Smith, Van Roberts, J. T. Rush, Ralph Baylis, H. G. Williams, Jr. and Harlos Everitt. Honorary bearers were Dr. J. N. Mathison, Joseph Magee, Dr. W. S. Berry, W. H. Livingston, R. G. Livingston, Paul Farr, R. E. Dale, R. C. Williams, Sr., Dr. N. O. Tyrone, Dr. H. G. Williams, Lee Jackson, S. L. Lee and W. E. Williams. Aultman-Saulters Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.

He is survived by his wife, Mrs. Lola Weldy Luper; one sister, Miss Bessie Luper, and three brothers, Dr. J. C. Luper of Okolona, Clarence A. Luper and Grover Luper of Prentiss.
