Herbert Merle Cook, 60 of 32428 County Road 10, died Friday at his home.
Funeral services will be 1 p.m. Wednesday from Peace Lutheran Church, the Rev. Milburn Goetz of ficiating. Burial will follow in the LeRoy Cemetery.
Mr. Cook was born April 30, 1924, in Sterling to Harry and Ida Marks Cook. He was reared on a farm 20 miles southeast of Sterling and at tended and graduated from Harding School in the Kelly-LeRoy area.
He entered the Army in 1943, serving in North Africa, Italy, France and Germany. He returned home in 1946 and began farming with his father.
On Sept. 11, 1949, he married Mildred Kellan in Sterling. In 1960- 61, he and his family lived in Mesa, Wash., returning to Sterling where they had farmed since that time.
Mr. Cook was a member of Peace Lutheran Church and was church congregation president and a member of the choir. He was also a member of Sterling Elks Lodge No. 1336, Colorado Wheat Growers, was a past board member of the High Plains Co-Op and was a sports enthusiast.
He is survived by his widow,Mildred Cook of Sterling; three sons,
Steven Harry Cook of New Raymer,Norman Herbert Cook of Lamar and
Samuel Jay Cook of Crawford, Neb.;two daughters, Lori Susan Haney of
Fort Collins and Ken Jeanne Cook of Sterling.
Mr. Cook is also survived by three brothers, Lester Cook of Wheatridge, Arlo Cook of Santa Maria, Calif., and the Rev. Elmo Cook of Meeker; three sisters, Velma Richards of EnglewOod, Inez Andersen of Red dick, Ill., and Eleanor Carlson of Sterling; and nine grandchildren.
Hettinger Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
