Martha Marie Hammons McDole, 88, of Madison, died Wednesday, Sept. 9, 2009, at her residence.
She was born May 26, 1921, in Trimble County, Ky., the daughter of James Owen and Carrie Bruce King Hammons. She was raised in Trimble County, Ky., and attended school there. She and her husband lived in Madison most of their married life. She was employed for over 30 years with U.S. Shoe, retiring in 1983. She also enjoyed babysitting and being a homemaker. She was a member of Calvary Wesleyan Church.
She is survived by two sisters, Lela Mahoney of Madison and Thelma Crafton of Bedford, Ky.; one brother, Randall Hammons of Madison; and several nieces, nephews and other relatives.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Archie R. McDole, whom she married Dec. 11, 1937, and who died May 3, 2001; two sons, Billy Joe McDole, who died July 25, 2002, and Buford Carroll McDole; her parents; two sisters, Della Coffin and Louise Leach; and two brothers, Owen H. Hammons and Elmer Hammons.
The funeral was at Calvary Wesleyan Church. Burial was in Moffett Cemetery in Milton, Ky.
