Mrs. Lela Mae Hammons Mahoney, age 93, of Madison, Indiana entered this life on January 6, 1928 in Trimble County, Kentucky, the loving daughter of the late James Owen and Carrie Bruce King Hammons. She grew up and graduated high school in Trimble County. She was united in marriage to Vernon "Darrell" Mahoney on July 9, 1949 in Carroll County, Kentucky. This happy union of 72 years was blessed with two sons, Steve and Keith. She worked at the U.S. Shoe Corporation for over forty years before retiring. She was a faithful member of the Calvary Wesleyan Church and enjoyed gardening, cooking and spending time with her family. Lela Mae was a devoted wife, loving mom and mama. She was awaiting the birth of her fifth great grandchild, Walker Patrick due to arrive in September. Lela died on Monday, July 5, 2021, at 6:56 a.m. at the King's Daughters' Hospital in Madison, Indiana with her loving family at her side.

She was preceded in death by her father, James Owen Hammons, died November 30, 1967, her mother, Carrie Bruce King Hammons, died December 26, 1965, her brothers, Owen Edward Hammons, died November 26, 1996 and James Elmer Matthew Hammons, died October 4, 1974, her sisters, Della Evelyn Hammons Coffin, died July 29, 2001, Louise M. Hammons Leach, died May 22, 1991, Martha Marie Hammons McDole, died September 9, 2009, and Thelma Laverne Hammons Crafton, died February 1, 2018.

Funeral services will be conducted, Friday, July 9, 2021 at 2:00 p.m. by Pastor Monty Mahoney and Pastor Brynen Chitwood at the Morgan & Nay Funeral Centre, 325 Demaree Drive in Madison, Indiana. Interment will follow in the Moffett Cemetery in Milton, Kentucky.
