[Note: I placed David in the Woody-Richards cemetery on the basis of Glenna Garnand Garner domumentation of the cemetery which stated there to be four graves w/o dates: one marked "Mother", one "Father", and two with rock markers without names. Since there are so many of David & Mary's children interred there, I believe them to be buried there also.]

David was born to Shadrack Richards and Susannah Hamilton in Franklin County VA.

He married Mary "Polly" Hodges, daughter of Abednego Hodges [a friend of the Richards], July 21 1818 in Franklin Co VA. The Richards plantation land covered an area to the south and a bit east of Rocky Mount.
David no doubt worked with his father Shadrack, then received land after Shadrack's death in 1827. David himself would only live another nine years past his father's death. I do not know if he died of accident or disease.

Their children:
1. Harriet Elizabeth [1819] +Henry Willard
2. Benjamin Powhatan [1821-1897] Corporal Co "G" 57th VA Infantry
3. Mary E. [1822-1907] +Wiley Woody [1796]
4. Shadrach [1823-1885] Co "A" 57th VA Infantry
5. Sarah Jane [1825] did not marry.
6. Josiah [1827-Nov 1 1862] Co "A" 57th VA Infantry died of disease Civil War
7. Bruce W. [1830] Co "G" 57th VA Infantry
8. King David [1832-July 3 1863] Co "A" 57th VA Infantry killed at Gettysburg PA under Pickett.
