Sally was born the daughter of Shadrack Richards and Susannah Hamilton in Franklin County Virginia.

Sally never married, and continued to live with her parents.

Her father Shadrack provided for Sally, and her unmarried sister Betsey, in his will:
"At the death of me and my wife it is my will and desire that all the remainder of my lands and estate and personal property be equally divided between my two daughters, namely Betsey Richards and Sally Richards, to them and to the lawful heirs of their bodies forever."

and:
"I do give to my daughter Sally my cupboard, to her and to the lawful heirs of her body forever."

Betsey, Sally's sister, went west to Missouri with her brother Joel Richards and his family. Sally stayed in Franklin County.

NOTE: [Burials in the "Richards" cemetery are speculative. The cemetery stones are lost to time, and only the location is known. Please contact me if you have information that would be helpful.]
