Update Obit: Loretto - A score of children are fatherless as a result of a tragedy that shocked this section early March 18 when the dead bodies of Faber (Pat) Eckenrode, 42, and his cousin, Lewis Ansman, 43, both farmers in Allegheny township, Cambria county, were discovered along state highway route No. 553, between Loretto and Syberton, west of Clearfield creek.
Double funeral services w[ere] conducted at 10 o'clock Satur[day] morning in St. Michael's chu[rch], Loretto, for Faber Eckenrode, [who] would have marked his 43rd bi[rthday] anniversary March 20, and [his] cousin. The High Mass of Req[ium] was sung by the parish pa[stor], Monsignor Saas. Intermentmade in the church cemetery.
Eckenrode's body was [dis-]covered lodged against a log?? field, only several feet from [the] edge of the highway, his foreh[ead] crushed, and Ansman's body [was] imbedded in several inches of ?? just on the edge of the high[way] within ten feet of his cousin ?? companion.
From the position of the bo[dies,] it was evident the men had a[ttempted] to cross the span, despite ?? conditions ??????. While attempting to wade thr[ough] the water to reach the span, [they] are believed to have become [em]erged. Eckenrode's body flo[ated] for a distance of 12 feet into [the] nearby field, while Ansm[an] floated to the edge of the high[way]. Discovery of the lifeless bo[dies] was made by Chester Koons, [a] PWA employe, and Andrew ??tell, poultryman, both of whom [re]side near Loretto, at 8:45 a[.m.] Wednesday. C[oro]ner Cyrus W. Davis was not[ified] of the deaths and ordered [the] bodies removed to a Cresson m[ort]uary to be prepared for burial.
The two men visited Tues[day] [looks like missing information]. They had traveled less than 500 feet when they met death. Ansman was a native of Allegheny township, Cambria county, and was born Feb. 1, 1893, a son of Albert and Helena (Eckenrode) Ansman. He followed the occupation of a farmer. He was married to Zita Bradley Nov. 6, 1917, at Loretto. In addition to his wife, Ansman is survived by eight children, all at home Mary, Catherine, Madeline, Edna, Gerald, Clair, Hilda, and Alma, and the following brothers and sisters: Alice Gallagher of 1416 16th avenue, Albert Ansman of 2504 Maple avenue, and William Ansman of 1616 Eighth avenue, all of Altoona; Mrs. Mary Christy and Mrs. Anna Koons, both of Allegheny township, and Walter Ansman of Derry.

Faber Eckenrode, who was more commonly known as Patrick Eckenrode, was born in Allegheny township March 20, 1893, a son of Michael and Margaret Eckenrode, both deceased. He was married July 23, 1913, to Miss Mary Miller Eckenrode spent his life in Allegheny township, where he followed the occupation of a miner. Surviving are his wife, Mrs. Catherine Conrad of Gallitzin, and 11 children, Paul, Ruth, John, Merle, Lavern, Clyde, Arthur, Bernard, Adrian, and Thelma and the following brothers: Howard Eckenrode of Gallitzin, R. D., Romanius and Walter, both of Allegheny township, and Ferdinand of Cresson.

Catherine is the oldest daughter of Faber and Mary. Either the obit was written wrong or transcribed incorrectly by mixing wife and daughter's names. “
