John J. Eckenrode, 76, of Nitro died May 6, 2000, in Thomas Memorial Hospital, South Charleston, after a long illness. He was an employee of West Virginia Steel Co. and a member of Holy Trinity Catholic Church, Nitro. Surviving: wife, Betty Dorsey Eckenrode; daughters, Valery Barrett of Poca, Vicki Miller of Scott Depot; sons, John "Tony" Eckenrode of Rocky Fork, Jim Eckenrode of Evans, Larry Dorsey of Poca; mother, Mary Farabaugh of Edensburg, Pa..; sisters, Ruth Dorsey of Melbourne, Fla., LaVerne Theresa Smith and Thelma Noel, both of Edensburg; brothers, Paul of Loretta, Pa., Merle of Ashville, Pa., Clyde and Arthur, both of Gallitzan, Pa., Floyd of Lilly, Pa.; 10 grandchildren; one great-grandchild. Service will be 2 p.m. Monday at Holy Trinity Catholic Church, Nitro, with the Rev. Dean G. Borgmeyer officiating. Burial will be Burial will be in Tyler Mountain Memory Gardens, Cross Lanes.
