Ruth was born on August 20, 1920 in Allegheny Township, near Loretto, PA to the late Faber Augustine "Patrick" Eckenrode (1892-1936) and Mary Theresa Miller-Eckenrode (1894-2000). In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her first husband, Bernard Clark Snead (1914-1969) whom she married on January 1, 1942 in Logan, Logan County, WV (per WV Marriage License Register, Logan County, WV, 1941, Page 152, Application Date: December 24, 1942); her second husband, Marvin Buren Dorsey, Jr. (1924-2018); an infant son, David Snead; her daughter, Tina Snead-Keshishian ; granddaughter, Meredith Snead; and eight brothers and sisters, including, Catherine A. Eckenrode-Conrad (1914–1959), Paul Ferdinand Eckenrode (1915–2007), Agnes Eckenrode (1917–1918), John Joseph Eckenrode (1923–2000), Arthur Ildephonse Eckenrode (1928–2004), and Adrian Francis Eckenrode (1932–1995).

Left to cherish her memory are brothers, Floyd and Clyde; sisters, Thelma and Theresa, and their families; Ruth's children, J. Dan, Michael, Risë; son-in-law, Melvynn; grandchildren, Charles, Michael, Jason, Justin , Jennifer, Ike, Katharine , Michael and Karen ; and fourteen great grandchildren.
