Mr. Watkins was born in Caruthersville, January 3, 1899, the son of the late John Wesley and Julie Dawson Watkins. The family lived here until he was nine years old, when they moved to Middleton, Tenn., later living in Laurel, Miss. and in Pascola and moving to St. Louis in 1923. Mr. Watkins was a carpenter and was fatally injured while at work when he fell about 30 feet from a scaffold a few days before his death.
He is survived by two sisters, Mrs. Brooksie Prewitt of St. Louis and Mrs. Myrtle Burgess of Walnut, Miss.; three brothers, Guy Watkins of Hayti, Lewis Watkins of Springfield, Mo. and Earl Watkins of St. Louis; a half-sister and three half-brothers.
