John H. Barrow was born July 19, 1860, in Jackson County, Illinois to Marion Barrow and Elizabeth Thomason Barrow. He married Cora C. Mason (born October, 1865, in Illinois) on November 3, 1884, in Franklin County, Illinois, and they had three children:

1) Stella M. Barrow, born in Missouri in 1885
2) Estella Grace Barrow, born on March 13, 1894, in Missouri. She married Lawson Gilbert Cloninger on November 7, 1915. She died in Fredricktown, Missouri, in September of 1963, and was buried in Marcus Memorial Park Cemetery, Madison County, Missouri.
3) Clardy E. Barrow, born in Missouri on April 8, 1899. He died on August 26, 1955, in Poplar Bluff, Missouri. The 1930 census lists Clardy as a transfer truck driver.

According to the 1930 census, John H. Barrow married Effie M. Gulley (born 1885, in Illinois) in 1905, in Missouri, and they had one child:

4) Tulley Oswell Barrow, born May 31, 1906, in Greenville, Missouri. He died on September 14, 1910, in Greenville, and is buried at the Paullus Cemetery in Coldwater, Missouri.

John H. Barrow died September 9, 1934, in Coldwater, Missouri, and was buried in Paullus Cemetery, in Coldwater.

In the 1930 census for St. Francois, Wayne County, Missouri, John is shown to be the County Treasurer.
