Ellsworth Barrow was born March 1, 1877 in Illinois, to Marion Barrow and Elizabeth Thomason Barrow. He married Martha Anna Gaffney (November 3, 1880-May 1, 1971) in 1907. They had two children:
1. Kenneth Ellsworth Barrow, born August 11, 1908, died January 20, 1991
2. Wayne Edwin Barrow, born March 18, 1910, died May 23, 1977
According to the 1910 census, Ellsworth was a painter. In the 1920 census, he is listed as being was a newspaper editor. During the early 1920s, he was an alderman, and Secretary/Treasurer of the Wayne County Central Committee. The 1930 census shows Ellsworth as a food inspector for the state of Missouri. The Barrow families belonged to the Greenville Christian church.
Ellsworth Barrow died of a cerebral hemorrhage on July 9, 1942, at Brandon Hospital in St. Francois Township, Wayne County, Missouri. His funeral was the last one held in the Greenville Christian Church before it was torn down. His funeral took place on July 13, 1942, and he was buried in Greenville Cemetery, Missouri, south side of Highway 67.
