Son of Ira & Nancy (Schermerhorn) Finch. He married first Florence L Wilkins on 23 Sep 1888 in Alpha, Fayette Co., IA. They were married by his father, Ira Finch, JP. No further information is known about Florence or this marriage. April, 2020 update -- Her maiden name was Parker, father William Parker, she had been married to William Kendall Wilkins, was 30 years of age when she married Sheldon Finch. What happened to that marriage is thus far unknown.

Sheldon next married Edith Rebecca Altman on 01 Jul 1893 in Macomb, McDonough Co., IL. She died 17 Apr 1894 in Alpha, Fayette Co., IA, only a few days after the birth of her daughter, Edith Eleanor Finch. Sheldon had no female family members available to care for Edith, and she was "temporarily" adopted by David Roe Hamm & Anna Laura Prouty. At some later date, the adoption was made final, and Edith grew up in the Hamm family.

Finally, Sheldon married Mary Frances Presley on 04 Jul 1897 in Madison Co., TN, and they were the parents of eight children: Sadie Aleen, Ira Owen, Alberta, Horace Lamar, Annie, Frankie, Sheldon & Lucille.
