Took up Homestead in Pine River
Christ Karau, one of the early settlers of the town of Pine River, died this morning at six o' clock, aged 87 years. Death being due to senility. He had suffered a Stroke Apoplext July 4, 1921 but had been in good health otherwise. He had retired from farming about 16 years ago.
Mr. Karau was born in Posen, Germany, January 18, 1836 and came to the United States in the year 1885. He was united in marriage to Miss Caroline Semrau in his native land and to this union, 13 children were born, one dying in infancy. Those surviving are eight sons, August, Gustav, both of Pine River; Daniel, Miles, Neb; Charles, Gottlieb both of Pine River; Christ Jr., Herman both of Merrill; and Albert of Pine River and Mrs. Gustie Hirsch and Mrs. Lena Lambrect, Hay Springs, Nebraska; Mrs. Hulda Lange of Gleason and Mrs. Caroline Pankow of Pine River. One sister was living in Germany. The mother, Mrs. Christ Karau, died October 22, 1917.
Funeral services for the late Christ Karau will take place Tuesday afternoon at 1:15 o'clock from the Albert Karau home in the Town of Pine River, and from the St. Stephen's Evangelical church in this city at two o'clock. Rev M.M. Schmidt will officiate. Burial will be at the Merrill cemetery aside of the late Mrs. Karau.
