John P. Walling (died March 7, 1989)
Services for John P. Walling, 77, of Palestine, will be at 1:30 p.m. Thursday at Bailey & Foster Funeral Home with the Rev. Robley Soileau officiation. Burial will be at Strong Memorial Park in Slocum.
Mr. Walling died Tuesday at Memorial Hospital.
He was born May 1, 1911, in Pushmataha, Okla., son of John R. and Fannie Lee Bennett Walling. He was a retired truck driver for Copeland Well Service and a Protestant. He was preceded in death by his parents, three brothers, Levi Walling, Norman Walling and Forest Walling, a sister Christine Walling Franklin, and a daughter Sandra Kay Walling.
He is survived by his wife, Faye Denson Walling of Palestine; daughters, Patricia Dhabolt of Palestine, Janie Lowman of Bandera; sons, John P. Walling, Jr., of Abilene, Gerald Walling and Bennie L. Walling, both of Houston. and Richard Alan Walling of California; sister Minnie Lee Walling Burke of Houston; brother Cliff Walling of Elkhart; 13 grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren.
Condolences calls will be received from 6 to 8 p.m. today at the funeral home.
Grandsons will be pallbearers.

"J.P." as he was always known, descended from the following grandparents;
Charlie and Callie Fornia Ferrell Walling of Grapeland, Houston Co. Texas, Levi and Emma Conaway Bennett Elkhart, Anderson County, Texas.

His Great-grandparents were A. Elisha and Amanda Williams Walling of Houston County, Texas. Also Miles and Laura Jordan Bennett, of Elkhart, Anderson County, Texas.

All of the Great-Grandparents came and settled in Houston and Anderson County, about 1835, when it was a Republic.

A. Elisha Walling and Miles Bennett fought in the war for "Texas Independance"

Miles Bennett later fought in the Civil War for the "Confederate Army of Texas'.
