Blanche M. Near, 75, of Gladwin, died Saturday, March 5, in St. Mary's Hospital, Saginaw, after a short illness.

Born in Gladwin County, Oct. 23, 1912, she had spent her lifetime here. She was a teacher in the public schools and a member of the Skeels Baptist Church, Hockaday Farm Bureau and the Hay Senior Citizens Club.

The former Blanche Spohn, she was married to Charles Near Nov. 10, 1933, in Gladwin. He preceded her in death Nov. 20, 1979.

Surviving are 5 sisters, Mrs. Lelah Grove and Mrs. Winnifred Ely of Gladwin, Mrs. Velma McIntosh of Saginaw, Mrs. Edyth Gizicki of Westland and Mrs. Dorothy Beavers of Sanford. A brother, Clarence Spohn, and a sister, Fern Cooper, preceded her in death.

Rites were held today, Wednesday, at 11 a.m. from the Skeels Baptist Church. The Rev. George Coon and the Rev. Carl Briggs officiated and burial was in the Highland Cemetery. Memorials may be made to the Skeels Northern Christian School. Arrangements were in charge of the Sisson-Mathews Funeral Home. Gladwin County Record dated 3-9/1988.
