Velma Rachel McIntosh, a great mother, grandmother, neighbor and wonderful friend to all, Velma passed away Wednesday, April 17, 2013 at her home following a lengthy illness. The daughter of the late Ernest and Sadie (Ladd) Spohn, Velma was born April 25, 1916 in Gladwin, Michigan and would have celebrated her 97th birthday this month. She married Elmer McIntosh on November 12, 1932. He predeceased her November 20, 1993. Velma was a life member of the Society of Mayflower Descendants of Michigan and was a descendant of Edward Doty. She was best known for her love of walking the Mackinaw Bridge on Labor Day, which she had done for at least 17 times, the last time with all of her children. Velma loved working in her yard and had the most beautiful flower garden around.

Surviving are her children, Richard and Margaret McIntosh, Saginaw; Roger and Milissa McIntosh, East Tawas; Steven McIntosh, Saginaw; Sandra and Melvin Davis, Bay City; 12 grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; seven great-great-grandchildren. Velma was preceded in death by two sons, Ronald and Marvin McIntosh, two grandsons and by six sisters and one brother.

Funeral service will take place 11:00 a.m. Monday, April 22, 2013 at The Snow Funeral Home, 3775 N. Center Rd., (between Shattuck and McCarty). Interment will follow at Chapel Hill Cemetery in Freeland, Michigan. Friends may call at the funeral home where the family will be present on Sunday from 1:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m. and on Monday from 10:00 a.m. until time of service. In lieu of flowers, those planning an expression of sympathy may wish to consider memorials to St. Jude Children's Hospital, the Salvation Army or the Saginaw City Rescue Mission.
