August Enfred Anderson was born in Millerville Township, October 17, 1898, the son of Andrew and Emma (Swenson) Anderson. The family moved to Moe Township when August was a young boy. August attended school in Rural District No. 5. He was a member of the township baseball team, and was their catcher. August was also involved in the Moe Township Literary Society. On September 27, 1928 he was united in marriage to Anna Esala. The wedding was at the Lutheran Parsonage in Alexandria. They made their home in Moe Township where August continued with his dairy, hog and grain farm operations, which included his horses that were his pride and joy.
August was a long time member of West Moe Lutheran Church and an active community leader. He was a board member of the Gardonville Telephone Company, the Douglas County Cooperative of Brandon, and the Brandon Creamery Association. He also served on the Moe Town Board and was a school board member of District No. 5. He continued farming until 1975, at which time he retired and moved to Brandon. For the past two and a half years he was a resident of the Knute Nelson Memorial Home where he resided until his death on January 4, 1991.
August is survived by his wife Anna of Brandon; daughters: Shirley Hermanson of Starbuck; Mae Eichelberger of Alexandria; five grandchildren. August was preceded in death by his parents, his daughter Delores Marie, four brothers; two sisters and two granddaughters.
Funeral services were held January 6, 1991 from the West Moe Lutheran Church of Brandon, Minnesota with Rev. Diane Lundgren officiating. Interment was in the Brandon Cemetery. Pallbearers were Roy Pipo, Verner Haabala, Norman Seppanen, Gary Adamson, Eugene Barsness and Robert Krafthefer. Honorary Pallbearers were Raymond Seppanen, Harold Johnson, Wilbur Hopfner, Toivo Hulkonen, Lloyd Hokenson, Reuben Myhr and James R. Anderson. Arrangements were with Anderson Funeral Home.
