Arthur P. Schuessler, 81, of Lone Tree, an area farmer, died Thursday, Sept. 22 at Atrium Village in Hills following a lengthy illness.
Services, arranged by Sorden’s Funeral Home in Lone Tree, were held Saturday at the Christian Church in Nichols with Rev. Ralph H. Farmer officiating. Burial was in Lone Tree Cemetery.
Mr. Schuessler was born May 8, 1902, in Lincoln Township, to Michael and Mary Stamm Schuessler. He married Edith Boyle Jan. 17, 1928 in Moline, Il.
He was the Johnson County corn husking champion in 1931, 1933 and 1935, area horse shoe pitching champion for several years, organized and played area softball for many years, bowled on the Lone Tree League, member of the Johnson County Farm Bureau and Christian Church in Nichols.
Survivors include his wife; one son, Marvin L. of Lone Tree;
three daughters, Joanne V. (Mrs. F. W.) Hopton of Fairfield, Oh., Donna K. (Mrs. Don) Bean of Marion, Ia. and Joyce C. Werden of Quaker Hill, Ct.; 11 grandchildren; and one brother, Albert of Iowa City. He was preceded in death by one son, three brothers and eight sisters.
Pallbearers were Wayne Burr, Warren Carpenter, Marion Carpenter, Leslie Perezek, Harold Schuessler and LeMoine Heither. Honorary pallbearers were Clarence Amish, Freh Hahn and Arnold Sundahl.
