Laura E. Best, 83, of Knox RD 2, died Tuesday at Clarion Health Care Center after an extended illness. Born on February 2, 1898, in Paint Township, Clarion County, she was the daughter of William and Anna Kunkle Bish. She was married on August 3, 1922, to Merle A. Best, and he survives. Mrs. Best, who lived in Clarion County her entire life, was a member of St. Paul's Lutheran Church of Knox RD, where she had been Missionary Society treasurer for 25 years. She also taught Sunday school at the church for a number of years and was active in Wentling's Corners Community Club. Mr. and Mrs. Best celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary on August 3, 1972. She is survived by a son, Paul A. Best, of Knox RD 2; a daughter, Mrs. Donald (Mary) Porter, of Knox; a brother, Ted Bish, of Knox RD 2; seven grandchildren and four great-grandchildren. Three sisters and six brothers preceded her in death. Friends will be received at Roy P. Stuart Funeral Home, Knox, from 7 to 9 pm today and 3 to 4 and 7 to 9 pm Thursday. Services will be held at the home 11 a.m. Friday with Rev. Dean Tyson, of St. Paul's Lutheran Church, officiating. Interment will follow in the church cemetery.
