Mrs. Sophia Hertz

Mrs. Sophia Hertz, 88, of Rolfe, a lifetime resident of Pocahontas County died Saturday, March 27, at the Pocahontas Community Hospital.
Funeral services were held Tuesday afternoon, March 30, at the United Methodist Church, Rolfe, with Rev. Warren A. Bintz officiating.
Casket bearers were John Salisbury, Robert Hertz, Marvin Hertz, Steven Hovey, Kim Hovey and Kent Hovey. Burial was in Clinton-Garfield Cemetery.
Sophia Wiegman was born in Pocahontas County and educated in the rural schools.
She married Joseph Hertz at Rolfe on February 6, 1907. Three sons and three daughters were born to this union.
The couple made their home for a short time on a farm in Minnesota and later moved to a farm near Rolfe where they lived until 1950 when they retired and moved into town. Mr. Hertz died in 1963.
Surviving are a son, Elmer Hertz, Salton City, Calif.; daughters, Mrs. Mabel Salisbury, South Sioux City, Nebr.; Mrs. Dick (Grace) Hovey, Gilmore City; 13 grandchildren and 17 great-grandchildren. Preceding her in death were her parents, her husband, two sons, Roy and Clarence; a daughter, Clara; and nine brothers and sisters.
