Death of Daughter May Hasten Demise
of Mrs. Charles Barker, Who
Has Been Ill Several Years.

Following an illness of several weeks with scarlet fever the 3-year-old daughter of Charles Barker, living on Kellar street in East Galena, died yesterday morning, and early last night death was momentarily expected to come to the wife and mother. Mrs. Barker has been under the care of a doctor about ten years but her most serious illness began the latter part of last December in the form of a complication of ailments. She began sinking yesterday after the death of the little girl and her condition during the afternoon was such that relatives expected the end to come at any time.

Mrs. Barker has spent most of her life in Galena and has a large acquaintance here. Her maiden name was Myrtle Bankson. Her mother and several children also live in East Galena.

Owing to Mrs. Barker’s condition last evening it was impossible to complete arrangements for the child’s funeral.

Mrs. Barker Sinking Slowly.

The condition of Mrs. Barker, of Eleventh and Kellar streets, was last night reported unchanged except that she is gradually sinking. Death has been expected since Tuesday noon. No arrangements for the funeral of the 3-year-old daughter, who died Tuesday morning, have been made.

Mother's Demise Follows That of
Infant Daughter by Only a Few
Hours—A Double Funeral.

Mrs. Charles Barker, aged 32 years, died Wednesday night at ll o’clock after an illness lasting since Christmas. Death was due to a complication of ailments and had been momentarily expected since Tuesday noon, or a few hours after the death of her 3-year old daughter from scarlet fever.

Mrs. Barker was born in Galena and spent her life in the city. She is survived by her husband and one child, aged 6 years, her mother, Mrs. Bankson, and several brothers and sisters.

The double funeral will be held at the family residence on Kellar street in East Galena this afternon (sic) at 2:30 o’clock. Burial will be in the Galena cemetery.

GALENA ITEMS.

Funeral services over the remains of Mrs. Charles Barker and 3-year-old daughter were held at the family residence at Eleventh and Kellar streets yesterday afternoon at 2:30 o'clock. Interment was in Galena cemetery.
