John Scott Payton Bankson married Bertha Brown on 8 Jan 1920 in Joplin, Jasper County, Missouri. Names I have seen for John's spouse include Bertha BROWN, Bertha BLOSSOM, Bertha EDWARDS and Mrs. Bertha Beatrice Stoney (first married name).

Bertha and Mr. Stoney had a son, Courtland L. Stoney b 22 Jan 1916. Courtland used the last name of Bankson throughout his life and is buried under that name in Oak Hill Cemetery in Galena, Kansas.

NAME: I have seen the name "John Scott Payson Bankson" used; however, John signed his World War I Draft Registration Card as "John Scott Payton Bankson.

JOHN BANKSON DIES
AT HOME OF BROTHER

Galena, Kan., July 14--John Bankson, 42 years old, died at 7 o'clock this morning at the home of a brother, Tone Bankson, Seventh and Water street, following a long illness.

Born in Joplin, Bankson came to Galena when a small child and had lived here since. He was a world war veteran and a member of the Galena Eagles lodge.

Surviving are his widow, Mrs. Bertha Bankson; a stepson (sic), Courtland Bankson; his mother, Mrs. Mary Bankson; four brothers, James Bankson, Charles Bankson, Tone Bankson and William Andrew Bankson, and one sister, Mrs. Delia Bynum, all of Galena.

Funeral arrangements are incomplete.

Bankson Funeral Thursday

Galena, Kan., July 15--Funeral services for John Bankson, 42 years old, who died yesterday morning at the home of a brother, Tone Bankson, Seventh and Water streets, will be held at 2:30 o'clock tomorrow afternoon at the Christian church, with the Rev. Henry M. Scaggs, pastor, in charge. Burial will be in Hillcrest cemetery.

Surviving are his widow, Mrs. Bertha Bankson; a son, Courtland Bankson; his mother, Mrs. Mary Bankson; four brothers, James Bankson, Charles Bankson, Tone Bankson and William Andrew Bankson, and one sister, Mrs. Delia Bynum, and a granddaughter, Patricia Larue Bankson.
